Integrated Personnel
Protection System (IPPS)
Sage is under contract to the Office of Naval
Research (ONR) to upgrade its HelmetVue system
into an Integrated Personnel Protection System.
The IPPS will be worn by First Responders and
will capture and transmit sensory information
to a base station. The information to be captured
includes: sensor information, physiological information
and environmental information.
There are many situations in military environments
where current body-worn sensory technology is
inadequate to warn and protect personnel from
nuclear, fire, chemical or biological hazards.
Sage is engineering an IPPS which will detect
and protect military forces from these hazards.
Applications for the IPPS technology include:
perimeter defense, damage control, chemical attack
response, firefighting, reconnaissance and top
side crew protection

The
IPPS will be based on a wearable wireless Local
Area Network (LAN). This will provide the infrastructure
to support the integration of the computer, display
and sensory components.
The integrated display system coupled with wireless
communications technologies will provide situational
information to the end user and live reports to
local command stations. Sage has developed and
demonstrated a functional prototype of the IPPS
and is currently designing and developing a pre-production
test model. The schedule for the commercialization
of the IPPS is 2009
