DEVS (Digital Enhanced Vision System)
Sage is under contract to the US Air Force to
develop a helmet mounted goggle system that will
help locate downed pilots. This new system will
be incorporated into the new Combat Search and
Rescue Helicopter (C-SARX).
Sage has proposed a dual sensor camera system
that will both enhance visual and heat emitting
detection capabilities. Sage will integrate both
a LWIR and a SWIR camera systems into a wide field
of view display system
The DEVS is a compact head mounted night/day
imaging system that provides SWIR, near infrared
(NIR), and visible image viewing through a Type
II digital display.
The SWIR operating mode provides the user with
both night time and daylight capability due to
its multi-spectral sensitivity. The unit is designed
to be operated with a wide field-of-view, allowing
the user to have peripheral vision. The unit will
be designed for easy removal and stowage into
a compact package for uniform pocket storage,
and could be accessed, deployed and operational
in seconds. In the detached mode, the DEVS could
be used like common binoculars for convenient
field operations.
The unit consumes about two watts and can be
powered from AA batteries. A set of AA batteries
will power the unit continuously for more than
three hours.
Sage is responsible for the lens and display components
of the system and is the system integrator for
this project.
Sage has completed the Phase I contract for initial
analysis and conceptual design. Sage has been
selected for the Phase II contract award. It is
expected that the Phase II development effort
will continue into the 4th quarter of 2009. Sage
will have delivered Beta units for USAF testing
within that time frame. Commercialization efforts
should be completed by mid 2010.
